Is it normal for a 2001 VW Jetta VR6 to need a tune-up at 51,000 miles?

Is there anything else I should be doing to keep the car running at its peak?

I have seen bad plugs on VR6 at 45-50K/usually will set misfire or other fault codes/also check throttle body and all filters/fuel filter needs replaced every 30-40K miles regardless/air filters seem to get dirty on these cars quick too

Tune-up has a whole new meanign these days. In teh past, before computers controled our engines, teh engines really would have to be tuned, to keep them running properly, not the computer does this for us many times a second.

By 50,000 there is some work taht suhoudl eb done, besides oil. Check your owners manual, there should be a nice little service list in there, that tells you evertythign that should be done, and when it should be done

I recently had a mechanic tell me the same thing about my 2001 VW. I was thinking I'd wait until 100.000 or so, but with the bad luck I've had with my VWs so far, I'm getting it done.

I'm not certain about a "full" tune-up, but i'd recommend at least the air and fuel filter be changed. Also check the owners manual for other maintaince items.

Yes it is fine. Check your owners manual to see what is scheduled at 48-50K and replace it all. VWs are tempermental, but they always like getting new parts.
