I want to do a one day trip from Dubai to Abu-dhabi staying in a hotel in Dubai.What's the best way?

Really you should spend the night in Abu Dhabi to take advantage of all the city has to offer.

However you can drive there in a fairly short amount of time. There is one main road with gas stations and restaurants along the way (there is no way to get lost).

It will take you a couple of hours each way, unless you drive like the locals and then it will take you less.
