I agree with the first answer. Since the rate that's figured in to a bill is usually 15%-18% (last time I checked), if you felt that your service was so exceptional that the server really deserved more, by all means leave a little more ( I generally give 20% if I feel my server was extremely attentive and worked hard to meet my needs). They are NOT going to be disappointed to find a little extra cash set aside for them. On the other hand, if I find that the service I received did NOT merit that size tip, I usually just talk to the manager to discuss what it was that dissatisfied me.

I have generally only found establishments add the tip to the bill when they are serving a larger number of people (usually 6 or more). Unforunately, the reason most places have started to do this is because some large groups will just dump pocket change onto the table, leaving a burnt out server with a $4 tip for a $200 night's worth of work.

There USED to be a time when T.I.P.S. stood for what it meant "To Insure Prompt Service". Now, though, it is understood that most servers get paid minimally (unless they work at a VERY shi-shi place) and are counting on those tips to survive. The establishment who includes the tip with the bill is generally just trying to protect their servers from getting gipped by cheapskates... which I'm sure none of YOU are. ;)

I eat out an awful lot and do not like it when the gratuity is included on the check. It seems to invite mediocrity in service. Normally, I give the wait staff a chance to leave it off the bill and see how well they do. (I have never stiffed anyone in this method.) Normally, my tips start at fifteen percent and go up to twenty-five percent depending upon the quality of service.

If my offer is refused, they get the amount on the check and not a penny more.

If the tip was included in the bill, I would feel slightly offended because a tip is something you leave under your free will to show that you enjoyed the food and/or service. It isn't right for the people to charge you a tip. I wouldn't leave one.

If the tip is included in the bill, then you do not need to leave additional tip.

If you feel the service is extraordinary and u do have the 'extra' money that does not hurt you to free up, then feel free. Otherwise it shoudl not be necessary. And if u don't leave a tip, u shouldn't be condemned either. U done your part by eating there in the first place.

No, unless your willing to dish out a full double tip. If you leave "just a little extra" on the table you may appear cheap because they might not realize that you already left a normal sized tip.

If tip was included in the bill, I've NEVER known anyone to leave an additional tip! Never and I don't suggest it, unless you really want to impress someone (ie: your date, the waitress/waiter, etc)

no, b/c tip included is an option taken by the server on a table over 8(on avg.) the reason waiters decide to include tip is if they think you look cheap or poor, that is an insult in itself, so I wouldn't give them extra.

It's not necesary unless you love the place but think about it,aren't you giving tips already?

    hope I helped...

ps:I heard they actually do that to trick you because if you don't pay attention to the check you'll think its not included and tip twice...

Not unless the service went beyond what was expected.

They gotta work hard for that money!
