Serious problems with my computer?

Originally I posted

"So, say I want to log in to Yahoo! Mail to check my email. I type in my username and password and click "Sign In" A popup window comes up-

"You are about to view pages over a secure connection.

Any information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed by anyone else on the web." There's a check box for "In the future do not show this warning" and two button options: OK and MORE INFO.

So, I click OK. The page that comes up is "Page cannot be displayed" And this happens with any secure page.

Also, I can't sign in to any instant messengers, most probably because of this problem.I've tried to remove the cause of this problem with Spyware Doctor, but that hasn't helped. And please, no bogus answers. Thanks in advance!!"

as a question. Even with the answers, my problem still persists. Any ways to allow secure pages- etc.

I'm using a Dell Windows XP Home Edition- not a company computer. Can anyone help me?

Update:

Restart messenger and the problem will be solved? No it will not.

a) This is a problem with my security settings. I can't even log in to Yahoo Mail anymore.

b) I've set my security setting to every possible way- and it still won't work.

If you are using a router on your computer with DSL, try this little trick. Found it on a tech support website. Worked for me!

Here is the most common setting that affects Hotmail or Yahoo mail:

    http://www.computing.net/windows95/w...um/163592.h...

Here's a page about what utility to use to change the setting for MTU:

    http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe

Click on that link and a window would come up to ask you to SAVE or OPEN, click on OPEN and you would see another window and at the bottom right hand side you would see a space that says MTU..you have to put 1492, then on the left side of that where it says adapter settings make you have the correct adapter selected, then clink on save and then exit and reboot your PC and try one more time to access your hotmail and yahoo account.

Helped tons of folks... hope this helps you!

I would do a few things (assuming Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.0):

    1. Reinstall IE Service Pack 1 (from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/crit...

    2. Clear IE cache (My Computer - Local Disk C Drive - Documents and Settings - your user name - Local Settings - Temporary Internet Files .... delete everything. If Local Settings isn't visible, click Tools - Folder Options - View, then mark "Show hidden files and folders")

    3. Test. If it isn't fixed, create a new user account (Control Panel - User Accounts) and try that. If it fails with the new account, then I would run sfc /scannow to restore the Windows system files.

    Try doing this.

    1. Go to Start

    2. Hit Run

    3. Type Cmd then hit enter

    4. type Ipconfig and hit enter that should show you the ip address the subnet mask and the default gateway.

    5. If you dont see that type this in. IPconfig/renew

    6. If nothing happens type this in IPconfig/release

    7. This will then release your connections to the computer.

    8. After all that, type exit in and then fire up your browser, you should get the page up whether it be yahoo or google.

I believe beside xp generic firewall, you don't have another one, so try uninstall yahoo messenger and internet explorer thru add/remove programs in the control panel and then install internet explorer first, yahoo messenger the 2nd, the problem should be gone.

I don't know what answers you got earlier, so I don't know what all didn't work for you. Anyway, I think there is something faulty with your browser (which according to my guess is Internet Explorer). I suggest you install another browser; like Firefox (available for download at http://www.mozilla.com/firefox ) or Opera (available for download at http://www.opera.com/ ) and try viewing those pages. If the problem persists, send me a message (click on my username and click on "Contact this person") and I'll help you.

    2 Disable insider windows

3 disable other audibles if any or try install new messenger just unistalling this one.

you may have security setting in the browser that may be causing problems, adjust your security setting donw a notch

you may have a firewall that is blocking some apps or protocols, turn off you firewall for a few seconds to see if it makes a diff, turn the firewall back on, then adjust settings

    This is simple to solve.

Go to tool/options/security and set all to default there and click appy and then ok.

That should fix that from coming now.
