I agree that every fraternity is different on every campus. We had most of the ones you listed on our campus, but it would do little for me to tell you who was a stronger chapter or had the best parties versus those that had trouble even getting new members.

I recommend that you narrow your choice down to maybe three. Do some research on those three.

Have they had lots of hazing issues nationally? You don't want to join a fraternity only to find yourself duck taped to a keg of beer forced to drink until you puke.

Do they host well-attended parties? You don't want to join a fraternity that's known for nothing more than brotherhood get togethers and studying. You want one that also knows how to have fun.

Check out their national web site. How long have they been around? How many chapters do they have? Are there any famous people that you look up to who were members? How many members were Eagle Scouts?

Find out info about the local chapter. How long is the pledge period? Does "hell week" interfere with exams? Will you be required to stay at the fraternity house during that week? What other organizations are the members involved in? Do they participate in intramural sports? Have they had any hazing or alcohol violations recently? What is the chapter GPA?

Really, do your research. Seriously. I joined a sorority my sophomore year. And took that first year of college to do my research. I wanted to make sure it's what I wanted. And it was.

Greek life is wonderful and it can really enhance your college life, as well as later in life. My significant other was in a fraternity and is still close with all of his "brothers". They still have get togethers a few times a year and help out with their chapter when needed.

    Good Luck with your decision.

Every fraternity is different as per campus....You best bet is to see what fraternity you feel like you can fit in with and not plegde a place just cause it's good standing.

I am a fraternity member in Delta Chi and it has some very deep history. But I didn't join the house for the honorable name i joined my fraternity mainly cause I mesh with the guys in the house already and participate in the same clubs as they do. You really need to go to the rush events and see which house you feel as though you can fit in with and not pledge a house just on the name. PLEASE visit each potential house and see which one you like the guys in. Also please don't pledge fall semester freshman year if possible wait until you have your group of friends

Just for your knowledge generally speeking the fraternitys with just 2 greek letters have been around longer than those with 3

Judging from you icon I aqm guessing you want to for to Phi Delta Theta

It depends on the character of the chapter. Every chapter is different - so Sig Eps in one place could be completely different from Sig Eps in another. Go rush and see which group of guys you like the most.

jsw is right, and yahoo answers is a particularly bad place to ask for candid and realistic opinions of fraternity life. if you're curious, rush.
