How can I recover files from a diskette?

I have a disk, I copied files on it, with a Win 98 PC.

And now when I try to access disk with my win XP, it shows me 'Disk in drive A is not formatted'

I need those files immediately. What should I do?

Immediately move the read/write slider to open so that you don't accidentally ever format the disk.

Start with another disk and make sure your floppy drive can read and write to a disk. Then you do this, get a blank second disk.

From an xp command promp start run cmd

    you type diskcopy a: a:

    hit enter

you will copy the disk that isnt working to a blank disk, remeber the second disk has to have the write slider closed

YOu insert the disk that isnt working, hit enter

then it will tell you to switch, you switch , hit enter

at the end, you will have a copy of the bad disk, see if that works. If it doenst. Take the copy and use the built in disk repair tools to see if it can recover the files. If that doesnt work then you will bneed to get a trial fiel recovery software for the orginal disk.
