Contact Lenses Solution taken off market?
Bausch & Lomb's contact lense solution, RENU with MoisterLoc was taken of Wal-mart, Wal-greens, and Rite-Aid markets in the U.S. I have RENU MultiPlus, not the one taken off market. Should I switch to a different brand entirely? I'm afraid to continue using RENU products.

I work for an eye doctor. We have been in contact almost every day with our Sales Rep from Bausch & Lomb (the company that makes ReNu). They have advised us not to hand out the solution for the time being. The Center for Disease Control is investigating the cases reported and trying to discover the cause. They discovered that the infected patients have all been using the ReNu Solution, but no direct cause has been determined yet. The CDC has NOT specifically accused B&L for the outbreak but have asked them to halt production and distribution for the time being. This fungus is extremely rare and only about 50 actual cases of it have been reported. I think it is important to note that ReNu has been using "Moisture Loc" in their solution for years. The FDA never approved it until now so that's why they never advertised it and changed the labels on their bottles. So the actuality of this particular solution causing the fungus is highly unlikely since the same solution has existed for several years now. However, you should be cautious and proper contact lens care should be used when cleaning and handling your lenses. Always wash your hands before putting them in and taking them out. Always use a lens solution that has disinfecting properties. Sterile saline cleans, but does not disinfect. This particular fungus does cause permanant eye damage. If you think you have symptoms, you should consult your eye doctor immediately. Some symptoms include:
Sudden Vision Loss
Cloudiness
Red and Irritated Eyes
Pain or Pressure
Also, if you are actually diagnosed, be sure that your doctor reports your case to the CDC and B&L. Please pass this information along and encourage people to consult their eye doctors if they have questions. Calling B&L directly is not effective and is not recommended

I was using ReNu moisture Loc and switched to a different ReNu product after I heard the warning. I now have the dreaded infection. It is bad advice to say if you don't have an infection to not worry. It is not worth the pain to continue using the product. After it is all cleared up then people can go back and start using the product again; however, why risk it. I am now going to a doc almost every day, using special drops every 30 min to 1 hour. It is very expensive medically. I can not work at all because I can not see out of my left eye. They are now trying to see if they "can save the eye". I am happy to announce that I am beginning to see a little out of my left eye, but now matter what I will have permanent damage to that eye. Please be careful and do not risk the infection. God Bless

no don't worry about it... we still use Renu MultiPlus in our office (i work at an eye clinic) if you are not showing any reaction to the solution... don't worry, you are safe... i still give Renu Multiplus to our patients for the first time fit... I have never had any problems at all... if you are worried and you think other solutions sting your eyes you can change to Bauch & Laumb Sensitive eyes

if you are afraid to continue using the product, definitely switch. i would switch just for the price savings, honestly. My eye doctor told me to use the cheaper, generic brand solution, its the same stuff, just cheaper.

I use Opti-Free Express. Try all solutions available until you find one that works for you, that's really all you can do.

I think it was a contamination issue on just that one product. If you don't get an eye infection, I wouldn't worry about it. Or...consult your optometrist.

I think it was just the moistureloc brand that may have had a contaminated batch.
