Question can't be answered fairly because your only input could be a personal opinion. Personally I would rather see it as a live play after all that was how it was intended to be seen. But and a Big But it is, that movie was GREAT and come to think of it I can't recall a movie ever being talked about more than that one was (none). There is absolutely no fair and unbiased answer to this question.

The play. Shakespeares work does not need to be edited, or altered. He is a master at the classics. The play is original and gives true possession to the art of that time

The movie. It is much easier to understand the whole meaning of the play by seeing a visual image created to show people what Shakespeare intended to.

The play because the originality of Shakespeare is so beutiful, so deep, that a movie by another artist can't copy the likes of Shakespeare!

The movie was better (even if it did have the untalented Leonardo DiCaprio in it).

It was better because of the way it was set in an era we could relate to with more contemporary costumes & settings. the use of handguns made it seem more modern also.

    A thoroughly well done effort.

i can't help you out too much because i haven't seen the play but the 1968 movie was okay.

the original play cause everything was done by the book and on the movie they edited some stuff and added some stuff also.
