What do you think about electronic voting machines with no paper trail?

Programmers are very skeptical about their security, and the potential for shenanigans seems very high.

    Dangerous.

It'd be WAY too big of a target for electronic sabotage. Sooner, rather than later, people are going to find ways to bypass any and all security mechanisms that can be placed on the devices and their data stores.

NO NO NO NO NO NO.....

voting without accountability or verification is almost as bad as a system where people can't vote.

almost any system is going to be vulnerable in some way, especially to low tech social hacks (think, someone claims rather loudly to enough media people, "i have tampered with the voteing and you will never figure out how!" would be enough to at least bring about investigating even if the person hadn't done anything and could result in questioned results)

with that said, one would also think that it would be rather easy to build a machine that adds one over and over again, properly shows you who or what you have added one to, and prints out a receipt showing it. but somehow these things count backwards, count not at all, add to the wrong person, etc etc.
