My dog barks at anything. What do you think about the electronic non barking products?
I don't want to hurt him and we are best friends. I also don't want to irritate the neighbors to the point where it is "the dog quites down or move". I rent my place.

I use a bark collar on my chessie, when I don't want him to bark. they do sting when activated so be cautious when you use one, they do work very well. Make sure you let your dog know when it is alright to bark, such as unwanted intruders and prowlers. If this doesn't appeal to you try taking obiedence classes, these will help also

There are alternatives to the electronic shock collars to correct barking. One is an auditory correction device - when the dog barks, it emits a high frequency sound that stops the dog. This is hit or miss, as some dogs continue to bark between the beeps. There are also citronella collars (just like the candles). There's a small chamber that fits on the collar, and a small sensor sits against the dog's throat. If the dog barks, the chamber releases an aerosolized spray of the citronella. It doesn't hurt the dog, but it's stinky, and it seems to work well. The shock collars can be effective, but make sure the company has tested the device on different dogs - a chihuahua doesn't need the same charge as a cocker spaniel, who doesn't need the same charge as a lab.

I don't think that they are the best answer.
Your dog is barking for a reason. I know that it might cost some money but maybe get a dog barking specialist to come and have a chat to your dog and you- I'm only new to the UK but maybe a vet may be able to help you locate one or someone else.
My sister's neighbours had a dog that constantly barked and they found a stop bark specialist to be a great help.
It took some work on their part but in the long run you and the dog will be much happier.

One of my friends has a Golden Retriever who would just bark at everything. He got one of those devices that delivers a mild shock when the dog barks and it seems to have worked pretty well.
