The biggest hurdle to entering politics is money.
Not at the local level - you can run a campaign there
for a few thousand dollars.
But even State Legislative races can cost 10s of thousands,
some State Senate races have run into the hundreds of thousands.
And to run for Congress takes $1 million minimum. That means $10,000 every week for the two years you are serving in Congress. That's a lot of money to beg for.
If we had public financing of elections, I believe it would become a lot more attractive option for many people.

younger people are often alot more apathetic about politics. I am actually taking a course in politics right now, and we did a study on age and interest in politics, and the older the person got, the more it mattered to them. also, having a college education was a huge factor in it. Education and political interest go up together- the more education you have, the more likely you are to be interested in politics. And since it takes many years to get a high education, thus the age difference.

I think many young people are put off by the people involved in politics at the moment. although maybe the young that are involved are just working away behind the scenes for 20 years until they get a job where they are noticed

You don't have to take up politics as a career to change the face of politics. You just have to VOTE!

Some do but you have to be rich to become a politician. Hard to run a campaign when your opponent is spending 100 times more than you.
