Why is there a mumps breakout?

If we were all vaccinated when we were babies, why is there a breakout of mumps in Iowa right now? It's spreading, and I'm moving to Iowa for the summer. Do I need to be re-vaccinated?

You need at least 2 doses of the vaccine. If your shot record doesn't show 2, I would go get an MMR just to be safe. The people contracting it are those that are not immunized. A good lesson for those parents that think immunizations are not necessary or are harmful.

It seems that many people didn't bother to go back for the second mumps vaccination, and there is also about a 10% group of parents who refused vaccination, thinking that vaccinations cause autism or other ills less documented than mumps.

I believe in the news it was stated that two passengers from Europe brought it over here. I know for a fact it was brought over here by passengers on a plane but I might be wrong about Europe
