Questions about ear piercing! I really need help.?

I need some answers to the following questions:

1. How painful is it?

2. What happens after you get your ears pierced? Do you select what type of earring you want to wear? I've heard that I must wear a certain earring for a certain period of time.

3. How long before the hole closes up again?

4. Do I wear it to bathe and to bed?

5. I heard that piercing some part of your ear means your gay. Which is which and what if I pierce both sides of my ears? What does that mean?

6. Mike Shinoda wears some sort of dangly earrings on both sides of his ears. What kind of earrings are those? What's that called?

Hope you guys can really help me with this questions. I'd appreciate it ALOT! Thanks!

Update:

Oh is that what they call it? Hoops!? Ah... right. =p

Update 2:

I'm a guy.

1, Depends on your pain level.I had mine done the old fashion way Ice cube and a needle.(age 7) Did not really feel it.

But my ears got sensitive and I had to take them out.

2,If you go to a place that does them with a ear piercing gun you choose the earings that they use in the gun to peirce the ears.Go for something flat or just gold studs NO dangly stuff yet.easy to turn in your ears and keep clean. You have to turn them to keep the skin from forming around the post and clean clean clean!

3,If you pull them out and don't put them back it depends on if they were healed up. newly priced 6 mos or less will close up quicker.

I only rarely wear earings anymore and mine were redone with a gun at 18(YES IT HURTS MORE but its better than a shot)Mine get hard to getan earing though but I can usely get them in with no problems.

4,Yes you were them 24 7 till they heal, rinse off any soaps shampoos, clean with cleaning solutions,or perxiode, alcohol

After you can take them out you have to clean the earings buy soaking them in one of the above and keeping the hole clean is top on the list too. You do not want an infection it can get out of hand in a hurry. If you know you have ANY sensitivy to metals wear 14 kt gold out earings made for sensitive ears NO nickle based - Green and sore ears almost every time. Silver is fine if you can wear it. You just have to make sure to take out and clean or you will get a dicoloration. Clean silver earings in silver cleaner then rinse in water then place in alcohol before wearing.I prefer silver so I wear them most often.

5, I think nowadays no one cares cause they peirce here there and everywhere any more.

6, Mike? never heard of him.LOL I don't know will check some recent photos and see if I can tell you

After you are healed up you can wear dangly stuff if you want.. Best not to sleep in them though.

Source(s): Spell check was having problems hope I got everything right. LOOKs like gold Hoops in Mikes ears in some of the photos I've seen. Hoops and diamonds, plain gold or silver studs and punk rocker dangly stuff if your going clubing ect. looks best on guys MHO

    1. I've never had the cartilage pierced, but the lower lobe is not very painful. A sharp prick is all if you have done with a piercing gun.

    2. After piercing, you have to wear the piercing stud, for 2 weeks, or so I think. The time may be off, but I know if you don't wear the stud the recommended time, you run the risk of it closing and infection. You are also told to slightly turn the earring some so that it doesn't try to close around the stud.

    3. If you follow the instructions for the first couple weeks, and wear it ever now and then afterwords, it shouldn't ever completely close up. I got mine pierced when i was 18, stopped wearing it for the most part when I was 20. A thin membrane of skin forms now and then inside the hole, but i can easily 're-pierce" it with just an earring.

    4. It's your preference, though you probably don't want wear a dangling earring to bed if you shift alot at night.

    5. In the 80's and 90's, the left ear was considered straight, the right ear considered gay. Nowadays, in the united states, I don't think it really matters. Lots of guys are big into getting both ears pierced and there's a trend of guys increasing the gouges and creating those big holes in the lobe.

    6. No idea about Mike Shinoda. Who is mike Shinoda? lol

basically you select an earring you like best from a palate of eaarings that are specially made for piercing. these earrings have a pointed post to make going thru the ear easier. they are placed in a "piercing gun" and a dot is place on each lobe to ensure they are even and you know where the hole is going to be. the lobe is placed between the post and back of the earring and the piercer then "pulls the trigger" and the earring snaps together and the post is driven thru your ear in a snap! It's so fast and easy! you feel a slight pinching/burning sensation but by no means a deal of pain whatsoever. it's a very easy piercing and hardly hurts at all. you then leave the earring in day and night for 6 weeks i believe. the earrings are specially made and will not come out or fall off. you are to turn the earring inside your ear a few times a day to get the hole used to being there. after 6 weeks you can wear any earring you like...i suggest only surgical steel/gold/or sterling...because pure metals will not infect the ears. a cleaning solution is given when pierced to help healing process. but there is no blood at all and maybe just a bit of pus. the hole won't close up unless you don't keep them in for 6 weeks or go a long few months without wearing any earrings. and wear them both to bed and bathe. you pierce youe ears how you like them. the whole gay thing isn't anything, just something random people believe. pierce what you feel will make you happy. i don't know who the guy is and what kind of earrings he wears...sorry!

hope that helped. i promise it doesn't hurt and will enable you to dress up any outfit with a pretty set of earrings <3

    1. not too bad, but if its your cartiledge it will hurt a little after when you lay on it. But the actual piercing doesn't really hurt.

    2. You select the earing from a bunch of choices they have, and you have to keep it in your ear for about 5 weeks, or 10 weeks for cartiledge, then you can change it.

    3. If you keep earings in most of the time, it is better, but after a year of having them pierced you can go without wearing them for probably about a month or so before they would close up.

4.yes you can wear them in the shower and to bed. If you are wearing dangle or hoop earings it might be uncomfortable to wear them to bed though.

    5. If you are a guy they say if you pierce your right ear only, you are gay, but I think it is kinda a thing of the past to think that, but to be on the safe side, i would get either both or just the left. (if your a guy)

6.not sure who that person is, but right now the "in" dangly earings are called chandelier earings.

    1. yes it hurts little. But you'll be fine. I got mine when i was five and i didnt cry.

2.After you fet it pierced its fine. YOu just jave to clean it. Yes you select what you want, you dont have to wear certain earings at certain time either.

3.the hole closes up after a couple months if you had it pierced for a while.

    4. You bathe and sleep with it on. Just make sure it isnt silver cuz then you'll turn green.

    5. Ur a guy rite. WEll it doesnt matter if ur a girl but if you pierce the left ur not gay pierce the right u r. If you pierce both ur bi.

    6. Are you taling about hoops??? MGuys shouldnt wear dangly one. Just diamond and hoops.

    1) it hurts just for a while. no worries mate.

    2) that's true. you select your earring before you get your ears pierced and ideally you shouldn't remove that earring for a period of time, the length of which the person who pierced your ears will instruct you on.

    3) that depends. usually if you just got your ears pierced, it closes up faster than if you've got your ears pierced for a long time. so as a beginner, try not to have your earring removed for more than 2 weeks.

    4) you can wear it to bath and to sleep. but then again, if you wear a dangling one, then be careful when you do either cos it might get hooked onto something and you won't want to know what will happen after that. if not, studs are perfectly fine to bathe or sleep in.

    5) i am a guy and i pierce my left ear. no one has told me i'm gay and i am surely not one.

    6) i have no idea. sorry about this one.

    hope it helps.

    1. Hurts for a second. Looks cute forever.

    2. Once your ear is peirced, it has to stay in for up to 6 weeks. Then at that time, you can change it.

    3. It takes a maybe like a week or so after you had it in for the first 6 weeks if you don't wear any earings.

    4. Yes, it is safe to have your earing on.

    5. Are you a guy?

    6.i don't give a ****

hey Sam,first of all let me tell u i got 5 ear rings..( 5 is my lucky number).2 were done for my 1st birthday-n im alive!next 2 when 16 n my 5th 5 months back.

1.its like getting pricked with a fat needle.before u can say ouch! its over.(i laughed )

2.nothing happens after that.hurts for a few min n then stops.yeah U get to choose your ring.most jewellers wil advise U to wear a gold ring at least for 3 weeks.takes about 2 weeks to heal completely.

3.if U stop wearing it,n it hasn been long since u got it-it could close in 2 to 3 days!

4.the first ring thats pierced is like a pin thats bent into a circle around your ear n the end is twisted in place so u cant get it off yourself unless u cut it.so u wear it the whole time.try your best to keep the area dry for at least a few days so it can heal fast(initial blood clot has to form n stay in place-gets disrupted with water of if U keep fidgeting with it)

5.i heard sailors got a single one done on the left ear for balance n to prevent sea sickness. supposedly gays wear it on the right ear-not sure why.. both ears is just for symmetry n a fashion statement-plus ear rings are usually sold in pairs so may as well use both!

6.really dont know this one.but after about a month of the 1st one fitted by the goldsmith u can wear any type u feel like.

u can also get something known as the Gun Shot.

got mine done by my jeweller.plain n simplest way!ask for a disinfectant to be used over the area n use a dab of an antibiotic like Soframycin to prevent any possible infection.

    have fun!

  • 1. it doesnt hurt, it feels weird

    2. you keep the earring that was used to pierce it in for 6 weeks

    3. it depends how long you've had it pierced, during the first few weeks it can take a few hours

    4. yes, for the first few months

    5. supposedly it's if i you pierce your right ear, just peirce both cause one ear looks weird, unless you're going for a "rapper" (lack of better words) look, then do the left

    6. they look like hoops
