The amount of payout is only a portion of all the lottery money taken in. Of course every state is different, but usually, a portion of the money taken in is given to the government; a portion to local charities; a portion as expenses to run the lottery commission; and whatever left goes into the prize pool for the winners.

I have no faith in winning the lottery. If you notice, there seems to be a deliberate dispersion of lottery winners over a given area over a certain length of time. As long as man has computers, you can't trust them.

Here in Colorado there is a disclaimer on the commercials: "Prizes equal fifty percent of sales." There is no way you would believe they are going to give away ALL the money? It is a huge money maker. (tax on the poor, including me) The highest payday for them is when they give away the $210,000,000. There are nearly fifty million tickets sold before the prize is given and NONE (except 15 million) of that money rolls over to the next drawing. Wouldn't we all like to get a $35,000,000 payday and it took them three days to collect it all.

The lottery takes in WAY, WAY more than it pays out.
