If your pump is in the tank it is through the permanent sock type filter in the tank, through the pump, into the filter, on to the regulator which feeds the injectors and also sends excess fuel back through the return line to be used later. Your pressure regulator constantly checks the lbs of pressure on the line to determine how much goes to the injectors and how much returns. If the pressure goes over a certain amount the regulator sends signal to cut off power to the fuel relay to kick off the pump.

Different manufacturers sometimes use various setups but the most common is: Pre-pump(inside tank), Main pump(very close to tank), Accumulator(to remove pulse from pump), Filter then optional Regulator depending on system.

There is no correct order really,it all depends on what type of automobile you have and the type of injectors you have.Sometimes they squirt one at a time or they go go in groups of two
