It depends on how old the car is. Cars should average about 10,000 miles per year. If your Civic was built in 1991 or earlier, 150,000 miles is not too much.

Some people say to change the oil every 3000 miles. That's a good idea, but every 5000 miles (or every 6 months) is okay. The more you drive (or the harder you drive) the more you should change the oil. 5W-30 SAE motor oil is probably good for the Civic.

At 150,000 miles, you should also be concerned about other components such as brakes, bearings, axles, tires, shocks, and alignment.

No, I had a '87 Honda Civic for 15 years. I replaced the clutch at 150,000 miles and finally sold the car with 175,000 on it. It is still running strong. I made sure and always changed the oil every 3 months or 3000 miles. It was the best car I ever owned.

I had a 1991 Honda Crx Hf model with 368,000 miles on it and blew the head gasket on it only because it was leaking slightly at the water pump and losing water. I was at a red light one day and noticed the temperature gauge was over the halfway mark and almost at the three quarter mark, I immediately shut the car off however it was too late she blew the head gasket. I knew a man that has a garage and he charges $500 for repairing a head gasket including the gasket and machine the head down, I did not fix it being another mechanic fixed our Toyota pickup and the bill was over $800 so he said I will trade you for the broken Crx and I did. I have 2 more a 1989 with 62,000 original miles and a 91 that I drive everyday with 310,000 miles on it right now and she runs strong and gives me 49 to 55 mpg all day long even with the AC running in the simmer. These vehicles were a highly engineered piece of machinery and I will always try to find the Hf version from 1988 to 1991, always. I want them bone stock too I can't stand a molested one! Cheers,

your civic has a lot of life left, make sure that you keep changing that oil every 3k miles.try using a synthetic the older the engine the quicker it breaks down the molecules in the oil. the synthetic takes longer to break down and last a little longer. It is a little more expensive but it is worth it. I have a 96 with 170k miles and she still runs great!!

Heck no! Honda's are meant to run. I have a 1991 Civic SI and it has 220,000 miles and I drive it hard. Keep it tuned up and oil changes every 3k and you will be in good shape.

ignore the other idiotic answers except for the guy who said change your oil. try a high mileage synthetic blend. dont cheap out here. change it at 3000 mile intervals like religion. find a real auto tech and pay for his knowledge have him get you on a maintenance plan. with meticulous maintenance performed in a timely manner by a qualified technician you will be able to get at least 50000 more trouble free miles unless some smuck had already toasted the car. I can tell you about that part.

  • no civics usually have a lot more miles on them. there are a lot of civics that have 250000 miles. civics tend to last a long time and u r able to find their stock engine for like $5 or so on ebay without shipping costs.

Although Civics a good car you could keep one between 2-12months depending on the model

Not at all... as long as you perform regular maintenance, your Honda should keep on running for a long time... as a matter of fact, we've got a CRX with over 250,000 miles on the chassis and another with over 177,000 on the original engine.

As much as i dont like them, you've gotta hand it to them, they last forEVER...i see people driving $500 civics from the early 80's with $2,000 rims on them ALL OF THE TIME
