The Problem With Yahoo Answers..... Anyone else agree?

Yes, there are morons here, I won't dispute that. I get a little antsy myself when I see dangerous advice given to serious questions. But, people shouldn't use this site as their sole source of information, especially if the problem is serious. I can't say that they do because I don't know every person here, but it should be used more as a starting point not as the end all be all so to speak.

Anyone can pretend to be anything they want on line, that's why we should take medical and professional advice here with a grain of salt.

The whole night terrors thing is very real, I have it too. It has nothing to do with maturity and I'm sorry you got a response like that.

It's a problem, that's for sure. If you try finding the root of it you'll get to the conclusion that it's all about ethics. There is a category called jokes & riddles and pretty much every answer to a joke is a joke, this makes the whole site vulnerable to similar answers on serious subjects. The biggest incentive for so many bad answers is the points system; moreover, I may not give stupid answers to serious questions but I certainly feel motivate to answer because of the points system.

Many are motivated by this or by their answer chosen as the best, so supressing the points is not a solution, it works fine. The solution is ethics: I think I'm seeing this person face to face and answer like I would in that case, without having to run away, of course. If we all thought that the person asking the question is real and has real problems, we would be serious at least at the moment of answering serious questions or we could be earning points by simply saying: "Don't know much of the subject, so I can't give you advice on it..."

while some people on here just answer stupidly you need to keep in mind when you ask the questions that you might get answers that are wrong and down right dangerous. But its the askee responsibilty to weed out the answers that are just those and find the absolute best answer to your ?. And if they are people that are young asking ?s like their menstrual cycle to complete strangers dont you think those young people should be asking a parent instead of those strangers that really dont care what happens it they stick two in instead of just one? People just need to be more aware that those answers will always be there and to simply know that they are wrong and simply just ignore them.

I totally agree. There are way too many idiots using Yahoo Answers and some give retarded advice and others are downright mean, rude, or irrational.

I honestly think that it would be a nice feature if we could delete some people's answers if we choose to, just like on myspace if we dont like a comment someone puts on our page, we can delete it.

Not only is Yahoo Answers littered with bad advice, but there are too many people wasting space asking stupid, immature questions.

Seriously though, if you don't have the education or sources to back up your answers, then say so.

The problem with life in general are the ignorant people. You are worried about the ignorant people on Yahoo answers, but there are ignorant people for everything. Life would be perfect if it were not for the ignorant. A few examples: drunk drivers, Racists, Terrorists...see my point. Why worry about the insignificant ignorants where there are much larger ones to contend with.

some people are goood too.who give correct answers.but be on giving good answers.

Yes, but as with everything else in life you have good and bad. Some people do take this site seriously, and provide answers to the best of their abilities. (sometimes their best is scary also)

In conclusion, you have to sensor it yourself -- just as in life. Don't take things personally, or focus on the negative, but appreciate the good answers more so since they are far and few between.

I am totally with you, I think this space will soon become useless if people who don't have anything esle to do still anwering things that they are not sure what they are talking about, besides many other people just ask stupid things and soon wi will be filled of useless information
