question for people in the airforce?

I am looking to be an aircraft maintaince specialist. I am 17 and my recruiter keeps calling me. Do you think i should join? If i do join how likely would it be for me to get the job i want? Is it really worth losing 4 years of my life?

It is not losing 4 years of your life. If you join up you will be exposed to all kinds of new experience and all kinds of people, some just like you. If you stay in a maintenance job for long enough, you are able to qualify for the same job in the real world. Meaning, that the Air Force pays you to learn something new and will give you the option to attend college while serving in the Air Force, feed you, and cloth you at their expense. If you score high enough on the ASVAB test you are able to choose your job. Also the door is open to become an officer and many other things. Think about it. You are the only one who can decide what you do. No one else can.

I was in the Army and have seen the Air Force getting the cushy stuff. I knew a Major who deployed and his battalion set up a tent city to live in for months they stayed there. They had to tear it down and move it to so the Air Force can put a golf course there.

If you want to join and have the scores for it go for it. Tell him what kind of job you want, and tell him you want a guaranteed contract for that job. Its all based on what you score and medical stuff. If you qualify you should be able to get any job you want. Don't let them BS you and say you cant get a guaranteed contract. Although, that job may be overmanned and unfortunately.. you may not get it.

*side note* Dont listen to 'The Accused'... he is a moron and likes to talk S***
