Why celebrate Cinco De Mayo?

This Friday is Cinco De Mayo, The 5th of May, but does anyone really know the real reason why Cinco De Mayo is celebrated? For the first correct answer, I will gladly give you 10 points. Hint: It is not Mexico's Independence day.

Because on the morning of May 5,1862 4000 Mexican soldiers destroyed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8000 at Puebla, Mexico.

    It is their "Independence Day."

EDIT: Ok, I stand corrected...LOL. Maybe I should do research before believing what I hear from other people. Wikipedia clearly states: "Americans have only a cursory understanding of the significance of this day; it is often mistakenly assumed to be Mexico’s independence day, and in practice, it is usually celebrated on a superficial level." and "It commemorates the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza over the French expeditionary forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862."

The Mexicans won some battle over the French but ended up losing the war.

definite and definite. it really is a holiday celebrated nationwide in the U. S. and locally in Mexico, in most cases in the state of Puebla. in the united states it acknowledges Mexican historic past and delight to commemorate the reason of freedom and democracy
