Just like I'm 20, and I believe I should be able to drink alcohol. The people that make the laws feel that people aren't mature enough to make smart decisions. For the most part, younger people shouldn't vote because a lot of them aren't even aware of what's going on, or understand the importance of things. It may not be fair to you, but you're time will come. I'm not sure how old you are, but it usually goes by fast!

The assumption is that you make more educated decision by the age of 18, but we all know that at 18 you can be extremely mature or extremely immature.

The reason it's 18 is because you can be drafted into war at 18 in the USA.

Just wait a few. It's a wonderful experience that's both glorious and disappointing. There's no need to rush it.

Or just move to another country. The voting ages are below:

Why should you be able to vote? And if you were able to vote, would you vote?

The main problem right now is not the age when people are granted the franchise, it's that people don't execute it. More people watch sitcoms than vote. And, statistically, young people are the least likely to vote of any group.

  • No. In fact, I believe you should have to pay a poll tax to vote. You should also have to pass a basic test of government, maybe the American Citizenship test given to immigrants prior to voting. Too many ignorant people vote. I'm not saying young people are ignorant by any means, but 18 is young enough. It gives you plenty of time to learn about life and issues before you get to apply your opinion to everyone else. You'll be more sure of what you're doing.

If you can get enough people your age to support your effort, you might be able to amend the Constitution to lower the voting age. It has happened once already. The problem is that young people have so many things going on that it is not a priority.

I think the voting age should be much lower, like around 12, or maybe even no voting age at all. Even if you are under 18, your well-being still matters. A lower voting age will force candidates to talk about issues that will still matter 40-50 years from now; issues like the national debt and the environment, instead of gay marraige and prescription drug plans.

it's already 18 and that's low enough... Too many kids getting out of high school today can barely spell. I know. I've seen them on the job.

    no, 18 is good...

but the drinking age should be lowered to 18 also... it's a joke right now... who does anybody think they're kidding?

NO. Plus who wants to vote anyway, our votes don't make a difference.

i think the voting age is right because its the same age that people can go fight for their countries.
