Both my girls were 'riding' at the age of three, i would walk beside them tho in case they lost their balance. At five they were riding small ponies on thier own, but was a very kid proof pony. check around in your area for a riding instructor who specializes in the younger children, most will have an age that they accept students. Its better to start them on a well broke pony as childrens legs are not very long and they feel more comforable and more secure on a pony where thier legs can be below the middle of the barrel of the pony . They can learn the aids easier also. I have seen small children on big horses ,but they had problems in cuing the horses with thier legs. At two, you could do lead line with herin your local shows, all you do in that class is lead the pony around the ring in a walk and in most shows every child gets a ribbon or trophy! it makes great pix too for the family album. A lot of shows have classes by the ages, like lead line for under six, a walk/trot class for 6 to 9 year olds, and so forth. IMO a child being interested in horses is a great thing, it keeps them busy and out of trouble on down the road !

2 is a little young but that doesn't mean the 2 of you very carefully can't ride together. Her in front, you hold on to her. I'm talkin' slow put-put around an arena. She'd enjoy it plus have the security of mom in back of her.

I was in the 3 grade (8ish) when I took lessons. I wrode a pony. See if there's lessons available for children in your area and ask the age limit. That will give you answers right from the horses mouth, instead of all of us just giving you maybes.

    Good luck

Probably around age 6 but be really sure the instructer is used to young in-experienced riders. My son broke his arm at the age of 6 falling off of a horse.

Horses are great animals BUT you have to relize they are powerfull and can be unpredicable so just make sure your child is at the right age and understands that before she gets around them. Going on my kids i would say around 5-7 years of age

In general children should be able to mount, before they are allowed to ride. The age depends on the size of the horse or pony available.

I've been around kids that started riding at 3. Check out your local riding schools/stables and see what they say. Also, see if you can take your child to the stable to begin introducing her to horses. I say they are never too young.

As soon as she can follow basic commands, and she has some upper arm stregnth. she can start on an older horse.

If you can buy an older 4h horse.

start learning about riding so you are ready to teach and to assist.
