Diesel. Much better fuel mileage and you have the possibility of running WVO or other biofuels. The diesel engine will last longer in the long run. If you do consider the gas model stay away from the 2.0 nonturbo. They are extremely slow and the basic engine design is not that different from the one in the original VW rabbits.

i don't think you want to keep your money in a car, so the resale value can't be so important for you
in case you have to drive a lot then diesel, maintenance is cheaper usually for diesel
otherwise gas version, which probably takes speed easier

Go with diesel. These engines tick forever, and the savings in fuel consumption will off-set the higher price.
Plus you have the option of running different blends of bio-diesel if you are environmentally concious.

Diesel. Modify it to run on cooking oil. Go to local restaurant and fill up for free on used oil. Youll save way more money than by worrying about resale value.

I work on both everyday and if ever i buy one it will be a diesel. Only a tick slower than the 1.8t and much better fuel mileage than the gas even if you beat on it all the time.

the diesel gets better mileage, but diesel fuel costs more.
the diesel motor will last longer, but costs more when buying the car, and more costly to repair.
