If he is healthy than he is fine. If the doctor checked him out said he was fine then it is alright. My son is 8 months and doesn't get seen again till 9 months so I don't know his weight right now, but at his 6 month appointment he weigh 14 pounds and was only in the 5th percentile, but the doctor said he was fine because he was proportion perfectly and because me and my husband aren't that tall or big she doesn't expect him to be very big. So your son is fine he is just small, but that doesn't mean he won't be big later. My nephew is 18 and 6 foot 2 and when he was born and was a baby he was always small.

Anywhere between 15 and 23 lbs is considered "normal" for a 9 month old. Genetics plays a big role in the ultimate size of a baby. Also, you want to make sure her height is proportional to her weight.

Here is the growth chart most pediatricians use to plot weight and height:

    Other charts are available at:

To answer your question, "Yes": 15-16 lbs would be considered normal!

  • All babies are different. The pediatrician will let you know if there is a weight issue. I think a 9 month old should weigh about 21 pounds.

Your baby sounds like he is at a good weight. 15 to 16 lbs is about average for a 9 month old active baby. If you r still concerned ask your peds. doctor to make sure he is the right weight cat. for his age group but height can make a diffs. to. Is he tall for his age or just average? Still if you r worried take him to see his doc it will make you feel better.

All babies are different - if your doctor says he's healthy, don't worry about his weight but really, 15-16 lbs. is fairly normal.

My first child weighed 18 lbs at 9 months and my second child which is 6 months old now already weighs 17lbs...so it all depends...All children are different! :)

that's something you really so ask your doctor all babies are different and it depends on their health but my daughter was about 20-25 lbs but she was a butter ball and was very small when she was born so it just depends on your baby's health but please never try to get your baby to loose weight some times they grow out of it and if you don't trust your doctors opinion please get a second opinion that is YOUR baby you have to keep them safe.height has a factor in it to and if he is very active or not so much but it sounds like he is about right in weight my daughter is 2 now and about right considering her height she is tall for her age every one thinks she is about 4 I hope this has helped
