I think that is a smart thing to do. I hate it when I am sitting a few tables away in the non-smoking area and a smoker in the smoker section is smoking.

Well i have yet to find a bar with the non-smoking rule. You might want to have a room specially made for the smokers in case your customers run to your competitors or worst your customers decide to open one that allow the bar to have a smoke. Checked your council if the bill of no-smoking in a building or bar or restaurant has been passed. If it has you hit the home run. If it has not... get a back up plan when the things get tough.

Hope for the best and prepared for the worst.

Market research has always shown that there is a strong positive correlation between smoking and drinking. In simple terms, it means that most people who drink also smoke and people who smoke also drink. Hence if u open a restaurant for non-smokers , but keep a bar, then it may not attract enough people to cover your costs.

Source(s): http://alcoholism.about.com/library/naa39.htm The Co-Occurrence of Alcoholism and Smoking Between 80 and 95 percent of alcoholics smoke cigarettes (2), a rate that is three times higher than among the population as a whole. Approximately 70 percent of alcoholics are heavy smokers (i.e., smoke more than one pack of cigarettes per day), compared with 10 percent of the general population (3). Drinking influences smoking more than smoking influences drinking. Nevertheless, smokers are 1.32 times as likely to consume alcohol as are nonsmokers (4).

It's a good idea. There are companies here in India, that fine you 50 or 100 bucks if you are caught smoking in their premises.

Just having a No Smoking sign will not help. You have to caution your patrons that you'll enforce this by collecting a fine or throwing them out.

well for the most part, the popular trends now are cities passing laws that make everywhere non smoking, if it's your personal choice to make it non smoking then I suggest having a balcony or patio that your smoking guests can go relax out on
