Did you know that millions of peoples' votes in every presidential election DON'T COUNT?!?! LITERALLY!?!?!

The way our electoral college system works, the candidate that gets the majority of the popular vote in a state recieves all of that states electoral votes? For instance, if one candidate receives 50.01% of a states popular vote, and the other receives 49.99%, the first candidate gets 100% of the votes that actually count in selecting the president. The only exceptions are Maine and Nebraska that allocate electoral votes proportionally according to popular vote.

So, in brief, if you lived in a blue state and voted red, YOUR VOTE DID NOT COUNT! And if you lived in a red state and voted blue, YOUR VOTE DID NOT COUNT! And if anyone voted for Nader, YOUR VOTE DID NOT COUNT! LITERALLY! Lets PLEASE get the word out that we want ALL of our votes to ACTUALLY COUNT!

Actually all the votes DO count. The electoral college was set-up to insure that there was hopefully a fairer representation of the nation on a state by state basis. Remember this is the UNITED STATES! Now if we were to do away with the institution of a state government, which may not be such a bad idea, then yes it should PERHAPS be one man or woman, one vote regardless of place of residence. It's not perfect but it what we have.

Yea actually they do. Peoples votes make up which direction the states go to. Everyones vote counts in one way or another. Wether its one of the 5,000 that pushes a candidate for the win, or one of the 3. It doesnt matter.

Yes, I know that, I'm pretty sure we all knew that. And the only time the popular vote counts is if the electoral vote is waaaaaay to close. One more thing, the reason the guy who gets the most votes wins is because THATS DEMOCRACY!

It counts in the vote for our state. So it did count to some respect. Just in the big scheme of things its easier for them to see it as this state votes this way, and so on. So there's less legwork of individually counting. I suppose it could be better to actually just have it be processed as individual counts. But it'd take a lot more processing time, and the actual process could take a few more months than everyone is used to, if not longer. Something to think about none the less.

Yes I did, just look at Florida in 2000. The Electoral College needs to be disbanded also. One vote per voter, is the only real fair way.

There is logic and fairness to the electoral college system of voting. I just don't feel like going into it.

Did you JUST grow up?? This has been this way since the BEGINNING!! Votes counts, and NEVER has an electoral college elector gone against the wishes of his/her State.

I won't reiterate what our esteemed collegues are pointing out in the "no duh" category. I will say, this is why it's important to be politically active and to have intelligent discussions with your friends. You individual vote may not have "meaning" in the deciding vote concept, but if you sway 3 friends to vote and then they each sway 3, and so on,you have created influence.

You can say something or just sit there...

Well, most people actually don't know unless they remembered it from whatever class taught politics in school... But remember, if they didn't think it was that important to start with, when they learned of it, what makes you think that they'll do anything now?
