A hernia is a rupture in the intestinal wall which caused the protrusion that you may have seen/felt...hernias are caused by heavy lifting, etc...so if you do a lot of heavy lifting then yes, a hernia can reoccur quite easily...just because you had surgery for one doesn't mean it will "go away" forever...hope this helps!

The odds of developing another hernia aren't all that great. You should have learned by now how to avoid some of them. It would have been helpful to know what type of hernia you had --umbilical, inguinal, abdominal, hiatal, etc.,etc. There are many.

Incidentally hernias occur due to an abnormal opening in muscle wall (sometimes congenital), obesity, muscular weakness, as a result of surgery or even illness. These are the direct causes of hernias. Incorrect body mechanics when lifting heavy objects is the exacerbating factor only in certain types of hernias.
