This is like asking people if you should eat an apple or an orange- everyone is going to have an opinion and it might not be the correct one for you.

What you should consider are your viewing habits and your budget. Most satellite tv services tend to be less expensive than cable, however the variety of channels may be different.

Which do you value more? Having the missing MTV channel or Yankees baseball? How often would you watch MTV? How often would you watch baseball?

Both services offer the same quality as far as picture on screen- (digital cable and DirecTV are actually not "digital"- the digital signal has to be re-converted to analog so that your tv can display it, and your eyes can view it).

As far as HDTV, most carriers offer the same amount of programming as DirecTV as well. (HDTV is also not a digital format. Technically, there is no such thing as 'digital' tv.) However, if you do not have an HDTV, you cannot take advantage of the higher picture resolution.

Again, what it boils down to is which programming you would end up watching the most.

If this is a difficult decision for you, perhaps you should consider how much television has taken over your life? Go outside and play baseball with friends. That's free.

With DirecTV you do get MTV, VH1 and Fuse. You also get more channels! Finally, all that hype by cable companies about satellites losing their signals is bull crap. I've had DirecTV for 2 years now and not once has it ever faltered. By the way, look for a special when ordering DirecTV if that is the way you choose to go. Check it out online.

If you're a football fan DirectTV you get the NFL Network...cable does'nt have it..and you may be able to upgrade to a package with MTV Jams.

I know someone with the Dish network. For awhile I thought I might get it. But on windy days they can't watch it. I think cause the dish moves too much. Also, lightning makes it go out for a bit. It's only 6 months old too.

Get DirectTV with the DirecTV Tivo (Dual Tuner) You will LOVE it. And you can still watch the BRAVES.

Akso Directv has regional sports programming, you can probably get a channel that caries the Yankees.

DirectTV has a hookup so that if the phone line is attached you can have caller id appear on the tv screen. I love this. Also they have GREAT customer service in my experience.
