Opinion of the band "Tool"?

Not my favorite band, honestly, but there is an unusual degree of talent there.

Their music is as tight as any band I've ever heard. And every song gives the impression that it is carefully orchestrated.

Listening to their albums, you get the sence that they are doing exactly what they want. No shortcuts, no easy cop-outs. They seem to know exactly what they want to do.

Whether or not the end result is pleasing to you, you have to respect a band that can do that. Equally as important is the fact that they play what they want to play, not what's popular.

Today, you can hear other bands beginning to sound like Tool. Although their popularity has dwindled, and I wouldn't expect to hear much more from them, thier impact is undeniable.

Tool is an unusually talented group of musicians. I rarely find bands that can attempt and pull off complicated timings such as 5/4 time and 6/8 time. The drum fills are great, the bass guitar conveys its own little message, and the guitar is great. The album "10,000 days" is absolutely orginal, also. The art is almost as creative as the music.

Some of their albums are really great and the some of the other ones really suck. Many artist just tend to moderate it by compiling a mixture on an album so you have to buy the sh*tty songs in order to get the other songs.

Tool just takes all the crappy ones and puts them on every other album. Its almost like an author having one novel composed of nothing but writers block scribblings.

Okay but a little overrated. Try Seether, Disturbed, or Godsmack.
