Jewelry-Fun or silly?
Do you think of jewelry as something valuable to pass on to your children, as a romantic gift, or is it just a silly way to spend money to you? Men: would you give your wives/grilfriends/ lovers jewelry at important moments (engagement, birth of a baby, anniversaries etc.)?
Thanks!

I think jewelry is silly and a complete waste of money. Jewelry does nothing to enhance the appearance of a beautiful woman and only indicates the ravages of time when worn by older women.
However women love their jewelry so us men have to buy the stuff for them in order to keep the peace :-(

I think it depends on how you view heirlooms. I never buy jewelry and think about passing it down. I buy it because I like it and can afford the piece. That being said, I have certain pieces I'll want my kids to have. Things like my class ring, my engagement ring, a certain necklace my children always tried to chew on when they were infants. If they choose to put it in a box and not use it, cool. But there are a few things I'd want them to have. But I don't plan to overload my kids with all my jewelry.
When my grandmother died, her kids got certain special pieces. Anything that was not chosen was then given to the grandkids. I still have a jewelry box of her's with all sorts of pieces in it. They aren't valuable or expensive, but they remind me of her.

I think a certain sentimental piece of jewelry should be handed down to your children, it's a nice thing to do and it gives them something to remember you by.
