My bullies running circles...?
My 9 month old bulldog has been running very quickly as if he is chasing his tail, and then sits down real quick and tries to reach that area, but because of his frame, he's not able to get close enough. By the look in his face, it doesn't just look like a game, it looks like he is in pain or very upset about something. Could this just be an itch or something else?

Is he constipated? Or maybe some type of worm(s), some of those itch when leaving the anal area. Have you checked him for fleas?

Tail-chasing in this way is an abnormal behaviour which unfortunately is common in some bull breeds. It can exacerbate to a point where the dog causes injury to its tail by catching and biting it. The dog should in no way be encouraged to tail-chase and the behaviour should be interrupted and stopped - the best way is to distract the dog with something more interesting like a toy or game. I would have the dog checked out by a Vet just in case it is something physical such as anal gland problems or some other irritation. If the Vet finds nothing wrong ask for a ref feral to a Dog Behaviourist for help in changing the behaviour

Could be an itch from fleas, but more likely his anal glands are full of fluid. This is very uncomfortable for him - many dogs will scoot their butts along the ground to try to relived the pressure. Some groomers will do this for you, but with a bulldog's anatomy it's best to have them "expressed" by a vet. It's a quick, cheap and easy procedure - they use a rubber glove and squeeze out the fluid. If the anal glands get impacted (clogged) the dog might need minor surgery to repair them.

Dog trainer has the right answer.
Could be flea or bug bite, itch or sore.. but more than likely his glands are impacted. Have you tried to touch the area just to see if it's pain or itch?
Our bullmastiff tries to go after his butt, and is usually successfull.. but his is from allergies, he gets itchy everywhere.
Definately take him to the vet and ask.

he could need his anal glands expressed... take him to the vet (it usually costs around $5 or so) if you let these get too out of hand, they will start to leak and it smells horrible! (like rotten fish)
it could also be an infection (it may itch where the infection is) or there could be tapeworms... either way you will have to take your dog to the vet to be properly treated but it sounds more like the anal glands though!
hope all is well and good luck!

Awww, is his bottom sore, he might be trying to bite it; worms or a flea maybe (fleas love the area around the backside.)He might just be playing, puppies are daft.

could be, check his back end for fleas, or a skin problem, white animals tend to have more skin allergies than others, his skin could feel like he has the creepy-crawlies and he feels this. if he doesnt stop have him checked out.
