Question???
When I grew up in Germany, we had a custom on the first of May. At night we had to make sure trash cans and any moveable stuff left outside was put away, otherwise you would look all over town for it the next morning. I remember our gate being on a neighbors garage roof once :o). I know now this is also Beltaine and yes we had a may pole in town. Any connection??? I also would like to know if it is still practiced. There never seemed to be any bad feelings about it.
Seligenporten, about 30 miles (guessing) from Nurnberg. Miss it, real small town.

They still do it! I am in Germany now in the Air Force, and there was a whole page of the base paper warning people to put their stuff up before the "May Day Raid"! I am in Kaiserslautern.

I don't know about the may pole but the celebration here in the States that incldes practical jokes is Halloween and hopefully there are no hard feelings the next day either

Haha sounds quite funny. Where in Germany did you grow up? I was born and raised near Frankfurt in Germany but I never heard of that. It was usually just an opportunity for the family to get together for a nice meal or something.

As a child growing up in America, we had may day on the first day of may and it was for tying a flower to a front door and ringing the bell of knocking and running off so they wouldn't know who had left it. I do not know that anyone practices it anymore.
