XPpro sp2 just (20/5/06) started running really slow - Help?
Just today, after windows firewall error message popped up (for no reason) an unprotected warning, and disapeared having corrected itself, my Windows XP Pro SP2 has started running really slowly. Takes ages to start up and even longer to shut down. I have tried AVG antivirus, Ad-aware, Spybot, Cybersweep, system restore but no real change - any body got any suggestions to help me out here?

set your firewall back to default settings and see if that helps, if it pops that error up agai, read the warning, don't just let it fix it

Be careful! I just caught a trojan on my Gateway with the Service Pack 2 for Pro. Its an older trojan called banshee but it has found a way in through that service pack!!!!! Dont shut your system down because it will cause you to not be able to turn it back on. You need to go into the system registry if you know how and go to the registry edit and delete the banshee. That is the brain of the system so if you dont know what you are doing in there get someone who does because you can really mess it up if not. Hope that helps

Look at Task Manager and search for processes that are hogging resources.
