If you place moth balls in your flower beds temporarily it will train the dog not to use this spot for his dirty deed. (Works for cats as well) As for the smell you will need to dig up part of the earth where the odor is worse. Replace it and add in 3 tablespoons of baking soda. Make sure your plants aren't "Acid Lovers" prior to this application.

Unless there is actual dog poop in the flower bed, there shouldn't be a smell. Look for renegade poopies and pick them up. If you can't find any, and it still smells, consider planting marigolds. They have a strong smell that will cover up the poo smell. As an added bonus, rabbits don't like them so they'll act like a natural rabbit fence and keep the bunnies from eating the rest of your flowers.

First get rid of all the dog poop. Then cover the ground with some redwood chips. It smells real good. Then place a dozen or so moth balls in with the redwood. Cats and dogs don't like the smell of the moth balls.
