Is there any conclusive research on the notion that music makes kids smarter?

I have heard numerous times that children exposed to music and that children that study music are almost always higher in intelligence than the children that do not study music. (ex. piano, flute, clarinet, voice etc.)

it depends on type of music and length of exposure to. and largely on whether the child takes an interest in it.

I dont know about any definite results but I guess that it teaches discipline and an appreciation of music. As for listening to music, some of it is a story in itself. eg, morrissey & Belle & Sebastian have ace lyrics. Perhaps it teaches an appreciation of things rather than causing cleverness!
