Workout question- Motivation across the seasons HELP?
I live in the northern midwest. I have no problem working out 4 times a week in the wintertime. I do a good hour of weights and cardio.I am very happy with my build. But come spring and summer, my motivation slips. How do you bring yourself to go to the gym on a sunny day?

Who wants to go to the gym on a gorgeous day? Not me. Get outside. Skip the gym and go hiking, biking, swimming, run outside, rollerblade, I could go on and on and on. I have the opposite problem. I hate the gym and refuse to pay to work out so in the winter I have a tough time getting out of the house. Maybe we could motivate each other. Too bad you live so far away, I need a workout partner!

Don't go to the gym--do your workout outside. There are numerous exercises which can be done without a gym. Try the book "Get Fit Stay Fit" by David Zinczenko (www.absdiet.com or your local bookstore) for some workout ideas which can be done without the gym equipment.
Also, turn work into workouts....rake leaves, dig the garden, wash windows, don't take the closest parking spot at the store, scrub the floor, etc. You'd be surprised what a workout washing windows can be!!! Whatever you do, do it energetically, it will keep you in shape. And get someone to tell you how hot you look throughout the year, that might help with motivation.

Why do you want to be cooped up in a gym on a sunny day when you could get exercise outside???? Your gym only promotes being INSIDE during the summer? How very sad of them.... Even the prison system offers some weights outside. It funny to think that convicted felons get better workout facilities than those of us that are good and PAID for the gym! That's so crazy...

I go for a shorter time more often in the summer or try doing something outdoors as cross-training is good for the body too. Swimming might really give you a boost and you'll feel the difference in your stamina and upper body. Telling your self you want to look good in less clothing is also a good motivator. I enjoy a game of soccer with my mates as well.

For cardio, plan a jog, or bicycle trip around some crowded places, where you can show off. To lift weights, go in the afternoon, when there are cute girls working out. That usually gave me enough motivation to work out. If that doesn't work for you, then try and find a buddy to work out with; just be careful not to bs the whole time :-p

Listen to some hard core rock music!! Listen to something like slipknot or system of a down. Turn it all the way up, get in that head banging, actuates mode. then go for it! take out all the aggression at the gym. hope that helps!! if not sorry, guess i am just weird!!

Stand naked in front of a full length mirror each morning. That should give you in the inspiration you need to workout.
