Check the following information:
Schol attendance rates
School graduation rates
Drug usage in this neighborhood
Criminal activity
I suggest a community that is gated or has limited access to whom can enter!

Not on a busy, noisy street.
Check where the sex offenders are located in the town. Many times on tv, it's said they were within 2 blocks of schools.
Are there kids your kids' ages nearby?
