Do you think Men & Women ages 18 to 42, should be forced to be drafted?
Universal National Service Act of 2006 (Introduced in House)
HR 4752 IH
109th CONGRESS
2d Session
H. R. 4752
To provide for the common defense by requiring all persons in
the United States, including women, between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes.
This would be a forced program, and if not into the military then some short of forced work program. this for people up to age 42..This is not a draft like other drafts.

You are all scaring me to death!! Why are Americans so willing to support this government's war machine?! I think it may be time to think about relocating seriously. The plan: first kill our educational system and independent media to create mass ignorance. Then conscript all of them.

I would think 18 to 26 or 28 would be better. I did time in the military. My son is in the Navy. It has helped him grow up. He has the GI bill when he gets out.
But then an all volunteer military says, that people want to be there, not have to be there.
I think we have to make the military a more attractive option. Increase their salaries (Face it, they disrupt their lives foe several years, for very little money). To save my son money, I am mailing stuff to him. Costs me a small fortune. Maybe the business could give them some discounts. I mail my son a package, clothing and homemade cookies, and it costs me an additional $20 and then by the time he gets it. The cookies are stale.
I was in Buffalo with my son a few weeks ago. He was in uniform, and we went to a place called 'Ted's Hot Dogs' (they have the best hot dogs anywhere) and my son was thrilled when they gave him a 50% discount. They recognized his sacrifice. (This is why I am giving Ted's a pitch, and they are great hot dogs)

Wow I have a hard time believing people actually support this. You people that do are sheep. Things like this are fine in countries like Switzerland where they don't make it a point to run about invading other nations over fictitious reasons, but here in America I think this bill would only insure a near endless supply of body's for Iraq, possibly Iran, and maybe even North Korea as well. I am by no means opposed to military service in fact I think a program like this could do our nation some good but only if the ones who serve via forced induction serve stateside and never wind up having to fight in one of Bush/Cheney's illegal wars.

Yes, and college, the normal way the rich get out of the draft, should not enter into whether someone is drafted!!
In fact, start with the wealthy 1st!! The wars would be over soon when their body bags started piling up!

I think that citizenship should be conditional to serving in the military (remember the movie, Starship Troopers). The right to vote should be contingent on public service and the ability to put the common good before your own.
We once had this attitude in this country, btw. We used to discriminate as to who was allowed to vote....based on how responsible they were.

YES, whenever somebody hits 18 and is off with high school they shopuld draft them in. America is like the only countr that dosen't do that. who cares about the war you wont do there anyways, u'll only serve as a reserve, and get training and thats about it.

I'm seeing quite an overwhelming number of supporting answers here. I wonder how much they were paid?
If this legislation is not a hoax, I'm very afraid for our country. I'm more afraid of the fact that I'm even considering the possibility that it could not be.

On one hand there should be no call for conscription in the 21st century, we should have the technology to no longer be required to go "over the top" in vast numbers.
On the other hand our potential enemies have access to these vast numbers.

Military is a very good place to learn self discipline along with the fact that our nation is over weight, it would be healthier for every one to spend some time in the military.

i agree and disagree. my daughters daddy is in the army so i dont think it would be ok to draft her mommy too. but i do think that women should be included in the draft. i have thought about joining after i graduate and trying to become an officer so dont think my first statement is my way out.
