Why do they paint the trees White?

I know it's so that bugs will not eat the leafs on them.

But why white? What effect does it create, how does white affect bugs?

White paint is a repellent, bugs will not climb on white surfaces. Also, the paint is sometimes mixed with malathion insecticide. In any case, it will prevent ants from climbing up the tree and munching up all the leaves.

This has come from old times.

Then, they were "painting" them with lime (lime is white), which repels not only certain bags, but also some sicknesses of trees.
