I think you should give it a try. I know a lot of realtionships that worked out because the two people were best friends beforehand. If you're worried about your friendship it'll be okay, just sit down and talk to him about it and explain your concerns. I'm sure he'll feel the same way. So even if you break up you can go back to being friends as long as you end on mutual terms, go for it!

i had this happen once. i said no because i did not want o ruin the friendship. we stopped being friends after that, but we may not have been friends if we would have broken up, it can be complicated sometimes, cause i found out the only reason we became friends was so he could get to know me to ask me out.

if you know them for so long and you go out, then what can go wrong? if you break-up is it really possible to lose your friend. If they're that good of a friend you won't lose them. no matter what. Give him a chance.

the best relationships have started out as friends. i think you are getting to serious about the words "going out". what does that mean? just keep hangin with him, and see where it goes, and dont make any drastic changes.
