i like both of them, but i have say that the Pathetique is the best. The Waldstein is good but not a strong as the Pathetique. The second movement of the Pathetique Sonata just makes my heart melt every time i listen to it. While the rambunctious 1st and second movement of the sonata is just full of emotions. Go Pathetique!!!

There is little point in me answering this question. My opinion is that Brendel's versions of the Beethoven Sonatas are the standard by which all others are judged. Gilels is probably the best alternative. I totally disagree with your assessment of Brendel's Waldstein... cerebral, yes... insipid - I'd say that is an uniformed opinion. Appassionata.... love Brendel's and also Richters. Opus 110 - Love Uchida's Mozart, but find her Beethoven too prissy. Opus 111 - The late sonatas are probably Brendels best Beethoven. I like Pollini, but some of his recordings come across as a little too "crystalline." If you are looking for a complete set of the sonatas... Brendels is by far the best.

I prefer the Pathetique, but they are both GREAT. The Egmont is good too. Have a look at the film: Immortal Beloved **** 1/2

None. I like Bach. The Austrian court was shameful in it's treatment of Mozart so I think they tried to make public ammends by proferring Beethoven.

    Pathetique

In my opinion, it's more melodic than the Waldstein, and more accessible.

    But both are great!

The only one I ever played well, was half of my college entrance exam. Don't remember the opus/number, it was in C minor, with a really cool melodic 2nd movement.

  • I love all Orchestra music. It is so soothing and it makes you feel as though all your troubles are flying away.I'm in 6TH grade and I love it.
