Question about repeat postings - does that mean questions and...?

answers? Does this:

"NO REPEATED POSTINGS: You may not post similar or identical postings."

apply to answers as well. For instance, if different people have the same or identical question, it is alright to post the same information, right?

I mostly answer in the Business category and many people ask the same or similar questions. All of the information I give is tailored to their specific question but repeating answers does happen.

For instance, if the question has to do with wanting to know what types of home businesses to start, I have book titles (NOT LINKED, just the titles) and free article links (NOT commercial, merely informational) as well as text I like to use.

I've seen other people do the same so I assume it's okay but want to be sure.

Thanks for any help!

Update:

Ooh, ok, maybe I wasn't clear...

Is it ok to post the same or similar answer to different people?

If multiple people are asking pretty much the same questions, my response to them isn't going to change.

Again, I've seen several high ranking posters do this over & over, so I assume it's ok but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Thanks again!

Good question. The ban on repeat postings has two purposes, as I see it.

    1) to limit the amount of spamming on the site; and,

    2) to prohibit the practice of posting messages like "let's get this question to a vote". This was previously allowed and even encourage, but is now banned as part of this community guideline.

However, standard answers to repeated questions _are_ allowed IF they are your own words and they answer the question. The Answers team has ruled on the forum several times that this kind of repeat answering is still allowed.

Yahoo Answers has this really queer format using points and rules that appear to have been written by a hundred-thousand differnet people all going in different directions. But regardless of the contradictions, it is an excellent public forum for exchanging information and opinion.

My best suggestion would be to work with it and see where it goes. Ask your questions, answer those you feel you can and let it all bang itself out on the walls of the web.
