can someone define dating for me, and why is it that dating isn't exactly being in a "relationship"?

if people are dating why is it that they can still "see" other people, and if they can't then what are the rules?

It's like this, dating is supposed to be where you are getting to know someone and deciding if you guys are compatible but are free to date other people.

Dating should really only be used if both people are interested in a relationship.

Nowadays, people use it, but have no intentions of being in a relationship anytime soon and then one party gets upset because they were thinking that one day soon they would be together and it couldn't be farther from the other persons mind.

Dating means seeing each other, going out, assessing each other to see if there is potential for more. You can date other people and there is no commitment involved since you are not officially a couple yet. There maybe sex involved. Some people date exclusively so that they can fully focus on getting to know that one person they are dating. By no means is it the same as being in a "relationship." Even if you meet their parents or friends do not kid yourself by thinking you are officially a couple until it has been clearly defined as a relationship. Some people live with their parents and can't avoid you meeting them anyways lol and for God's sake do not keep hoping that it will turn into more if you guys have been together for more than four months and still nothing lol. At that point you are just being strung along.

  • for me dating is not a commited relationship you can talk and flirt and 'date' others without being committed when you are in a RELATIONSHIP that means that you should be committed to that person however sometimes this is not the case... but if you are trying to get to know someone on a different level then you should date them first to see if you like what you have and if you do then start a relationship.. it makes it alot easier for a committed relationship to last

Dating is just that- someone asks someone out,and they go someplace for the time specified. You Date someone, to get to know them, to see if there is anything there between you , to see if a relationship should begin.

If you have made no commitment to each other, then you are free to Date other people. After Dating, comes the relationship, where you may be getting more feelings for each other, and wish to see more of each other and Begin being more intimate, etc.

If you are considering an open relationship, then the peanut gallery of teenage guardians of morality is not who you should be asking this question to. An open relationship is one in which the partners agree that they can do things with other people. What other things? That depends on the partners. There is no Great Rulebook of Relationships, and certainly no Great Rulebook of Open Relationships to tell you what is acceptable*. It does NOT mean that there are "NO commitments." It means you get to decide what commitments you want to make and which you don't. YOU have to discuss it with your partner and decide what your boundaries are. It's YOUR reationship: YOU and your partner get to define it and no one else. *the word is ACCEPTABLE, as in "I can accept that."

Dating can be defined differently - it can mean that you are exclusively seeing someone, or that you are casually seeing them and other people. The only way to really define it is to talk to the person you are seeing to clarify it or ask them straight out to have an exclusive relationship with you.
