U cannot at any times in this world Uninstall an Operating system. U can remove it. And that is done by switching it to another operating system.
At least you need to have DOS OS in your system.
So whats in your Drive C. Is your Computer is on Dual Boot ?
If it is, Probably you must be having XP as your primary. In either way its recomended that you Format your entire hard drive.
U can jsut format dirve D, But when you reboot your system, if it was on Duel boot you still can see Windows 98 in the boot menue, and it is selectable. If U select it it will give error like no operationg system found.
First save all the valued data In your hard drive. I would burn them all, specially those downloaded Image and videos :) on to Cd's.
Then Obtain a Bootable floppy with Dos 6.22 version or any other Dos version. In this way, you do not need to update your Bios Bcos by default your Floppy reads First B4 your Hard drives
Format your Hardrive using Format /s This will not only Format your hardrive, it will also Transfer a New Operating system (DOS).
Now your Computer is Free from Win 98 and XP. Reinstall XP
your computer will run Smooth
Good Luck!

It is better to load WINDOWS XP, and then go to the computer management and then open Disk Management and format the partition where Windows 98 is installed.
PLZ. then re start the computer,
Go to the BIOS choose BOOT from cd drive save and exit.
In the mean time push the button of the cd drive and insert the operating system cd of your choice.
And then point the Drive where the os will install and then as usual the steps.
And if this does not solve your prob then contact the person (if assembled) or shop from whom you have brougth computer.

Put in your Windows XP Setup disc.
You may have to configure your BIOS, but when you start up, it should say something like "Press any key to boot from CD..."
When that shows up, you press a key, wait for Windows XP Setup to load, then when the option comes up, press R for the Recovery Console.
When you get to the recovery console, log onto the XP adminstrative account, then type in the following:
E:\
format D: /fs:ntfs
Please remember to back up all the stuff you have on drive "D" if you have any. This will erase everything on your hard drive (and basically, the OS will be forcefully uninstalled).

From what you wrote,I venture to advice you to use a startup disk, enter command prompt and format the drive containing win98.Remember you can only do this in system setup screen and not from windows.Hope it will work for you.Else use a bootable win98 cd and boot you pc,start win 98 with cd rom support and follow directives as guided to erase the os you don't want.Alternatively you can use acronis software to perfom the task you wish to carry out.
