Anyone out there w/Crohn's disease?

I've had it now for about 25 yrs. - just wondering about what might be more effective treatments.

My 24 yr old daughter has had it since she was about 10. Remicade intravenously has worked best for her. She gets it every 8 weeks. At one point she also had surgery to remove a portion of her bowel and since that surgery 3 years ago has been virtually pain free.

I've had Crohn's disease since the fall of 1997, at the age of 23 yrs. It was pretty bad a first and I've been on almost every drug/medication out there. The last resort was Remicade. Expensive, but it helpded me for a while. The last few times I had it, I'd be fine for a few weeks and suddenly I'd get real stiff and sore. I could hardly walk because I was in so much pain in the knees, legs and hands. My husband and I decided that I should stop the treatment. We wanted to start a family and I couldn't be on the Remicade if I was to get pregnant. My last dose was in December of 2003.

After that, I did pretty good. I'm only on Imuran and am now 37 weeks pregnate! My whole pregnancy has been a blessing and I've haven't felt as good as I have in the past 9 years!

I pretty much watch what I eat and take the Imuran. I keep a journal of what I eat, meds I'm taking and how I feel on a daily basis. This helps me find out what foods bother me and keep track of everything. Not only does it help me, but also my doctor.

I have had Crohns for over 15 yrs, after having surgery 8 yrs ago, have been receiving treatment of Remicade every 2 months. This has been the most effective treatment for me.

The most effective treatment is eliminating the causes: Dairy, go to "milksucks.com" and find out about the paratubercolosis that causes Crohn's disease, and Gluten in Wheat causing the same problems (www.dogtorj.net). Good luck.

I have had Crohn's now for 15 years. No surgeries to date, but have been hospitalized up to 6 weeks at a time for "gut rest" since the disease was so severe they could not put me on a colostomy. In any case, 3 years ago my doctor introduced me to Remicade and WOW. It seems as if it is in remission....but as we all know, it is still present. I receive it every 12 weeks, IV drip. Expensive, however you can find doctors who administer it in their office for the cost of an office visit co-pay versus the hospital charging any where between $10K to $30K per session. Other maintenance drugs Pentasa and Imuran. Pentasa 1g x4 day and Imuran 175mg daily.

    XIFAXAN.

I am a walking advertisment for this drug. It was prescribed to me by a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic. I have been fine ever since I started in in 2005.

I am on Asacol & 6mp. I also followed the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for awhile. That worked real well.
