Why are my threaded PVC pipe joints leaking?
I am putting in a sprinkler system with PVC pipe. The glued joints are fine, but the threaded joints leak, even though I cranked them very tight. Should I use teflon tape on the threaded joints? Or is there some other technique? The joints are upstream from the valves, so I really can't afford any leaks.

Use teflon tape on all threaded joints. Wrap it around 5 or 6 times. Leaks should go away. Do not use pipe dope, it can get in to the sprinkler heads and plug them up.

You need to insure there is a taper to the threads of the pipe. If there is no taper all the Teflon tape in the world will not help. You should be able to re-thread the pipe if needed. The taper is actually what seals the pipe. Check out the link below. Hope it helps.

You need Teflon Tape. The glue actually melts and bonds the pvc together so as to not allow leaks. The teflon will act as a sealant to prevent leaks from occuring.

You must use teflon tape on theaded joint, but the tape and the thread must be coated with some glue ( UHU super glue ) before dressing, at the same time after dressing the thread with the glue coated teflon tape joint them together and tighten normaly, after jointing you must weit for 30 minutes before use. this is never leak system. good luck.

Use Teflon tape,if you want to be able to unscrew the joints at some point.If not,just use PVC glue on the threads.No leaks,I promise

you should use 3 wraps of Teflon tape around the threads to insure it seals completely, also any type of pipe joint compound will do. remember a clean joint is a happy joint.

Use teflon paste. I used it on my PVC drains and it worked fine. I think it seals better than teflon tape.

I've had good luck with coating the threads with Vaseline..or petroleum jelly...seems to set a seal.
