I think they will keep it free to use but add paid advertising/popups and the like to it

I don't think that they will do it. I pay for the Y!mail beta and I think that they should take a recompense every time that we click on a link in the publicity that they put under our answers.
Some could also buy a product!
Google is charging for its services but their forum is something different. It requires just professional answers, as I understood. It is not also for fun, like this one where somebody can write his (thoughtful)opinion on an issue even if he is not a professionist in this field.
How much thoughtful are the opinions expressed here?
Well, it depends on the person!
What I haven't understood yet,is what are their criteria to put publicity in some questions and in others not.

Erm, don't they already charge us for this service? If not, who am I sending those monthly checks to? I mean, don't all of you guys get those invoices from Fat Tony reminding you to send your payment (or else)? Post Office box in New Jersey? Sound familiar? Is it just me? Hmmm....
