I have a laptop with XP Home on it but i want to remove it and go back to windows 2000?

My laptop struggles to run xp home and i want to trash it and go back to win 2000 what is the command that i use to do this as i cant seem to bring up an active dos window ,any ideas if you could give me some clear instruction as to do this i would be much appreciative.

Update:

I have tried the information the first three people have mentioned to no avail each time i insert the 2000 pc wont allow me to run setup any further info

    u r doing the right thing that u are swithing winxp to win 2000 u know why becasue i think for users like us win 200 is the best one where you can do any dam thing.

    Very simple.

    1-> Restart the system and press dell 3 time

    2-> Go in bios and select the boot sequins 1st boot CD ROM

    3-> Press f10 and then press y and press enter

    4-> Restart the system and insert win 2000and when ask for boot CD press enter.

    5-> Then it will ask weather u waan to repair press esc .

    6-> Then accept the term and condition by pressing f8.

    7-> Then it will show the drive u have previously created just select the drive and press enter.

    8-> Then select format and install.

    Are you saying you upgraded from 2000 to XP and now want to roll back, or you want to wipe it out and put 2000 on it? If you upgraded, I highly recommend you format it rather than try to downgrade. You'd be better off with a clean installation. You'll need the 2000 cd, but if you just boot to it, it will walk you through the process.

    The Windows 2000CD should be bootable , set your bios to boot from CD , then once you get to the Setup screen format the drive and re-install Win2K
