Merlin, did he really exsist?
The merlin mythology has been a part of my life at different times and places.
It's guided me to places and people, and the wiredest and cooloest thing is i was born in the same town (Carmarthen) as him.

A complicated question. Merlin, the famous wizard that aided King Arthur is beleived to be as you say a myth. And yet some historical texts do make refrance to an elderly man that King Arthur frequently conversed with. Some people beleive that merlin was the manifestation of a collective country's disbelief in god. Through the dark ages, science and medicine were seen as a sin and un-holy...Making god a figure of power with magical powers is a likely outcome of such repression. Ever looked at King Arthur in the context of Jesus...very familiar stories..with underlining messages.

Maybe Merlin has always existed as an inducement to get out and see wonderful things and meet amazing people. He has taken many guises, other than the TE White book. This is the longest day of the year. Get out and find that mountain: the legend is that if you stay all night on the top of this mountain, you will come down either a poet or a madman. I think it is Snowdonia, somewhere near the middle. You might come down a Merlin.

Merlin is a lot like a Jewish Mystic. You might want to check out mysticism and alchemy if you love Merlin.
Oh, today I learned that Merlin's home was Avalon, and he is the mentor to the hero King Arthur. Our class watched Excalibur and Merlin's character was one of the most endearing. He was always so clever and made the comic points in the movie. Looking up to Merlin is a good thing in my book. He brought wisdom to Arthur and was a loyal person. He also managed to trick Magorda (King Arthur's wicked and incestuous half-sister) with his magic. Very cool stuff!

A good idea would be to watch Merlin movies, you know the one's with Morgana 'l fay his rival I'd prefer the Sword in the Stone cartoon Its kinda funny as he teaches the boy the ropes he he.
I think he existed because of the many vesions of the Arther story.
I mean have you ever seen a king Arthur film or story without merlin the wizard, druid, prophet whatever? I you can name it to me.
He was alive, camalot exists at lands end, Arthur was a great king so there!

This could just be an exaggerated story, like Excalibur was a sword on a forbidden stone that could only be reached by someone worthy of the king. Maybe the king approved Arthur, and Merlin was just the boy's tutor.

Yes, I believe he existed (maybe as a wiseman of his times). Have you ever been to Merlins cave under Tintagle Castle in Cornwall? You can only go at low tide but its magical!

Does it really matter if he was real or not? Sometimes all we need is a story to make things better. Following myths and legends leads to interesting trips and tales.
