Has there been any backlash for GreenDay since American Idiot?
The album is quite critical of American politics etc and whilst I think it's a great album, I wondered whether they had encountered any hostility because of it?
I know it is a good thing that GreenDay are talking about the state of the country, this is my point. I am however aware that there is a lot of sensitivity in the USA when someone criticises the government, and I wondered whether any of this had been dumped on GreenDay, is all.

I am an American, raised to be a very proud one by a WWII vet. and just as patriotic Mom.
And I think the CD is pretty accurate to what is going on right now!
So far, I haven't heard any backlash. My brother listens to all this stuff that made the guys [Green Day] write most of the song, and there's no mention of GD, nor the CD at all. The TV music I listen to did nearly a solid month and a half of GD stuff, but never mention anything about "how much flack they're getting over the CD!" The closest anything anyone said on that was on one show called "Influenced: Green Day" [about how they influenced so many bands over the years. One of the members of Aiden commented that they may have had some fans that actually liked Bush, and lost them over that, and he thought that was really gutsy of them to still go through with the CD and stand behind it all the way.
...sorry, ADD...I give long answers...but, in short, no, I haven't heard anything but extreme praise for the CD.

Nope, no real backlash...sure, they've gotten a few rednecks vocalizing their distaste for the band because of their "un-American" views, but nothing like what happened to the Dixie Chicks (banned on radio stations, cd burnings, etc)

I think no, they won the awards (Best Group, Best Album) in the last awards gig for that album, and the fans are supportive. I think this is what could be considered their crossover album. Meaning, they went past attracting just adolescent angst for the adult audience that they deserve. I love Green Day and have when it wasn't cool and it was just my son and 22 of his friends listening to them!

Why would there be backlash?
I was under the impression that it was a free country & that freedom of speech was encouraged.
Since when has it been a crime to voice your opinion?

im not American and i dont think there should be any backlash just because they can actually see how stupid their political leader is.

the only reason green day is all of sudden becoming political is for publicity anyway
