I was a Dish Network subscriber for 5 years and miss it dearly.
I cancelled my service earlier this year to move to DirecTV because of my new HDTV. DirecTV's advertising was misleading and I wound up spending more money than I thought I'd have to just to get my basic service up... and even then things didn't work right for a couple of weeks.
Dish Network always treated me fairly over the phone, and was significantly more responsive in service calls than DirecTV has been.
My only complaint about Dish is that when I called to cancel my service, I got the run-around for nearly half-an-hour. After the service was cancelled, they called 5 times asking me for a "valid reason" why I cancelled.
So, until I cancelled my service with Dish (because I wanted HD locals) I thought they were by far the best provider out there.

I have never experienced Direct TV but I would definetley go with Dish. We have it and it beats Comcast by a long shot. Verizon Fios T.V is also supposed to come out failey shortley and thats supposed to be even better. We will probably switch. Just keep in mind that if you plan to do anything to your house ( Like rip off the roof) they charge you $99 for it. The only reason I say that is because we just went up twp stories.

I had Direct for several years. Lived in isolated area and had no choice (was PRIMESTAR b4) this was long b4 they had any real competion. They treated us like **** because they could. Now that we've moved they're begging us to go back to them.ha-ha-ha
My son has dish network and loves it!! I WOULD GO WITH DISH NETWORK!! But you should be able to dictate to Direct TV somewhat if you talk to the right person. Good Luck!! Don't they make You CRAZY!?
